William A. “Bill” Kahl, 83, of 110 Main Street, Hartleton went to be with his Lord and Savior at 12:34 PM on Monday, December 5, 2016 at Geisinger Medical Center.
He was born on October 30, 1933 in Mifflinburg, the son of the late Harry N. and Mary Elizabeth (McCool) Kahl. On January 4, 1984, he married the former Sharon K. Miller, who survives.
Bill attended Mifflinburg Area Schools.
Following school, he enlisted in the US Army and served honorably until his discharge on October 25, 1955.
Bill retired after 28 years of service from the maintenance department at the former Laurelton Center. Earlier in life he worked at Philco Ford, Watsontown.
William was a member of Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, a member of Middleburg American Legion, Post #0052, and a life member of the West End Fire Co.
William enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping, cutting firewood, tinkering, and reading western books. He was a skilled woodworker and especially enjoyed making furniture.
Surviving are five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Herb Feltman of Spring Lake, NC, Diana and Brook Davenport of Chuluota, FL, Terry L. Matrey of Millmont, Kim M. Kahl of Millmont, Marci and Braden Heimbach of Millmont, 12 grandchildern, 12 great grandchildren, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Madeline Kerstetter of Mifflinburg, Margaret Stutzman of Mifflinburg, Ruth and Raymond Middlesworth of Laurelton. Bill is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, H. Marlin Kahl, and one brother in infancy, two nephews, Marlin Kerstetter, and Kenneth Bilger.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday at the Lincoln Chapel United Methodist Church, 2350 Paddy Mountain Road, Millmont, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. Mike Wilson and Rev. Mark Messner, officiating.
Interment will be in the Lincoln Chapel Cemetery.
The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Stephen C. Yang at John Hopkins for giving our family the last 13 1/2 years to share with Bill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bill`s memory may be sent to Department of Thoracic Surgery Fund for Johns Hopkins Medicine, 550 North Broadway, Baltimore, MD 21205.
