William K. Kerstetter, 87, of 111 Market St., entered into rest on Monday, April 28, 2014, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.
He was born on September 14, 1926 in Mifflinburg, a son of the late William M. and Helen Marie (Ruhl) Kerstetter. On September 3, 1949 in Toledo, OH, he married the former Betty K. Knepshield who preceded him in death on December 17, 2011.
Bill was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School class of 1944.
Bill was enlisted in the US Army. He obtained the rank of Sergeant while serving in the Korean War, until his honorable discharge in 1952.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg.
Bill worked as a Corrections Officer at USP Lewisburg, retiring in 1980 after 25 years of service.
He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #1396, Thomas H. Clapham Post #3410, American Legion, Buffalo Valley Sportsman Club, and Winklebleck Rod and Gun Club.
Bill enjoyed hunting, playing cards, going to the family cabin on Penns Creek, and spending time with family. He was an avid Phillies fan and in his younger years enjoyed playing baseball.
Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Michael Rempel of Williamsport, Linda and Anthony Eaton of Watsontown, and Sue and Scott Smith of Mifflinburg, five grandchildren, Amy Leffler, Christopher Eaton, Jessica Reibsome, Ryan Smith, Emily Stoltzfus, 11 great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marie Appel of Cleveland, and Mary Elizabeth and John Dunkle of Mifflinburg.
In addition to his wife of 64 years, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian M. Beckley on March 6, 2005.
There will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to his funeral at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, with The Rev. Peter Bergstresser, officiating. A time of fellowship with the family will be held at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mifflinburg following the interment.
Interment with military honors conducted by local veterans will be in Hill Top Cemetery, Mifflinburg.
