Vernetta Mae Reichley, 90, of Dry Valley, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
She was born on May 15, 1926, in Jackson Twp, Snyder Co, a daughter of the late Roy P. and Erma (Kratzer) Benfer.
On May 15, 1948, in the Kratzerville UCC Church, she married Herman Reichley and together would have celebrated 68 years of marriage this May.
Vernetta belonged to St. John Lutheran Church in Dry Valley, where earlier she taught Sunday school and was well known for being the church organist for 68 years. She was devoted to her church.
Vernetta was a homemaker, dedicated to her husband and family. She helped manage and helped with bookkeeping on the family farm. Earlier in her life she worked as secretary for the Northeast Breeders Association, when it was located on Fairground Road in Lewisburg. Later in her life she worked at the Bon Ton at the Susquehanna Valley Mall.
She was a strong supporter of the Union County 4-H programs and Union County Homemakers Association. She was a member of the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and worked for many years as Secretary for the Union County Farm Bureau Association.
Vernetta had a passion for playing the piano and organ.
In addition to her husband, Vernetta is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen and David Showers, two sons and daughter-in-laws, Allen and Judy Reichley, and Galen and Diane Reichley all of Dry Valley, six grandchildren, Michelle Reichley and companion Scott Sampsell, Brian Reichley and wife Debbie, Tara Handy, Nicole Kreiser and husband Jim, Jeff Showers and wife Erica and Robby Showers, and ten great grandchildren, and one sister, Marjorie Hackenburg.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Randy Benfer, George Benfer and David Benfer.
At Vernetta’s request there will be no public viewing. Family and friends are invited to visit with the family from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday at the St. John's Union Church of Dry Valley, 3939 State Route 304, Winfield, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. Ricky Phillips, officiating.
Interment will be in the Dry Valley Cemetery.
