Suzanne Antoinette Hummel, 41, of 790 Jackson Road, Danville entered into rest on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Geisinger Medical Center.
She was born on June 14, 1971 in Lewisburg, the daughter of Gerald F. and Lisa A. (Ale) Hassenplug of Mifflinburg. On October 06, 2007, at R.B. Winter State Park she married Scott Robert Hummel, who survives.
Suzanne was a 1989 graduate of Mifflinburg Area High School. She also obtained an Associates of Arts in Business Administration at the San Jacinto Community College. In addition, she attended York Technical Institute and Pennsylvania College of Technology where she graduated cum laude with three bachelor's degrees and two minors in information technology. These degrees included Network Specialist Concentration, Web and Applications Development Concentration, and Information Technology Security Specialist Concentration. She also was awarded The Woodlands Bank award.
She enlisted in the US Marines in May of 1991; she earned the rank of Sgt serving as a squadron leader in charge of logistics which supported F-18 fighter jets. She was honorably discharge in May of 1995.
Suzanne worked for six years in the IT Department at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Prior to that she worked three years at the Science Applications International Corporation at Johnson Space Center, where she was in charge of logistics and ordering.
She was a member of the New Berlin American Legion, Post 957.
Suzanne loved her dogs - Duke, Daisy, Dalton, & Dolly - and enjoyed camping, hiking, gardening, photography, and gathering with family and friends at the pavilion. Suz's infectious positive approach to life brought joy to everyone around her.
Surviving in addition to her parents and husband are maternal grandmother; Peggy Shetterly of Mifflinburg, one brother and sister -in-law; Eric and Jenni Hassenplug of Middleburg, nieces and nephews; Jareth Hassenplug, Lane Hassenplug, Tanner Hassenplug, Halie Wilson, and Kylie Hassenplug, Owen and Alexis Dando, father and mother-in-law, Robert and Nancy Hummel of New Berlin, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Camille and Charlie Dando of New York, brother-in-law, Kevin Hummel of New York, special friends, Tracy and Rob Derr of Lewisburg, and their children, Samantha Brininger, Allie Brininger, Randy Brininger, and Olivia Derr. Also surviving are two close friends, Nona Whitney, Diane Rickards.
Family and friends are invited to Suzanne's life celebration at 11:30 AM on Saturday at the Messiah Lutheran Church, 308 Market Street, New Berlin, with the Rev. Andrew S. Fitch, officiating. The service will conclude with full military honors presented by the Susquehanna Valley Detachment of the Marine Corps League. The family will receive friends in the church parish hall following the service.
