Ruby I. (Duke) Miller

Ruby I. Miller, 88, of Olney, MD entered into rest on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Montgomery General Hospital, Olney, MD.

She was born on April 18, 1926 in Milton, PA, the daughter of Harrison Fairchild Duke and Catherine Larue (Elliott) Duke.  On June 21, 1947, she married George Albert Miller, the love of her life, who survives her and misses her greatly.

Ruby graduated from Mifflinburg High School in 1944.  Following high school, she attended the Williamsport Beauty College.  Mrs. Miller worked as a beautician and operated her own beauty shop in New Berlin for a number of years.

Ruby dedicated her life to serving those less fortunate through countless hours of volunteer work at nursing homes, churches, the Arthritis Foundation, and other organizations—all while overcoming her own health challenges.

She was a member of Ashton United Methodist Church since 1972, where she served as Chair of Missions and Outreach.  She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 68, Sandy Spring, MD, and a founding member of the Cherrywood Garden Club, Olney, MD.

Ruby enjoyed a lifetime of artistic creativity working in oil, watercolor, tole, and ceramic painting.

Surviving are two sons and one daughter-in-law, George A. Miller, Jr. of Olney, MD, Carl and Donna Miller of Vero Beach, FL, two daughters and one son-in-law, Patti Robertson of Martinsburg, WV, Teena and Neil Wilkin, Jr. of Roanoke, VA, eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and three brothers. She is survived by four sisters and six brothers.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 11 to 12 PM on Saturday, January 24 at the Mifflinburg First Church of the Nazarene, 12 East Market Street, Mifflinburg, PA where the funeral will be held at noon, with the Rev. Wayne Krell, officiating.

Interment will be in Lewisburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mrs. Miller’s memory may be sent to the Missions Team at Ashton United Methodist Church, 17314 New Hampshire Avenue, Ashton, MD 20861.
