Robert "Bob" J. Sholley, 82, of 14 Meadow Lane, Lewisburg, passed sweetly and peacefully into eternity with his Lord at 2:25 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 29, 1931 in Beavertown, a son of the late Harvey Sholley and Katherine (Weirick) Sholley. He was united into marriage by Rev. Truman Wise on June 4, 1955 in Pillow, Pa, to the former Marlene Yohe, who survives.
Bob was a graduate of Lewisburg Area School District, and received a Drafting and Blue Print Reading Certificate from Williamsport Area Community College.
On October 5, 1950 Bob enlisted in the Army National Guard. Following his enlistment, in January of 1951, he was drafted in the United States Army, serving in the Korean War with the 104th Armed Calvary, 780th Field Artillery. He was honorably discharged on November 19, 1955 after receiving the United Nations Service Medal and the Korean Service Metal with 2 Bronze Service Stars.
Bob worked for Yorktowne Cabinets after returning from the service until his retirement in the spring of 2002. He enjoyed delivering flowers for Dogwood Florists for 2 years, until he began working for Buffalo Valley Recreation Authority in 2004, where he was still working as a maintenance man until his passing.
Bob was a lifetime member of the Mifflinburg First Church of the Nazarene, where he served as an assistant Sunday school superintendent, church board member and a choir member. He was also a member of The William Cameron Engine Company, # 1, Lewisburg; and a member of the Mount Bethany Gospel Gun Club.
Bob enjoyed all things outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, boating, golf, tennis, water & snow skiing. He was also an avid Penn State Fan.
He was a Little League Baseball coach for the J.P.M. team, played fast pitched softball in the Lewisburg League as well as slow pitched softball for the Mifflinburg Church of the Nazarene, Sholley Agency, and for the 35 and older team at Harry Haney field. Bob enjoyed playing ice hockey until he was 78 years old at the Sunbury YMCA for the Sholley team.
In addition to his wife of 58 years, he is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law, Jody W. and L. Renee Sholley of Mifflinburg, Mary P. Sholley of Harrisburg; two grandsons, Heath J. Sholley and his fiancAC.e, Shannon Woodling of Mifflinburg, Dustin R. Sholley of Lewisburg; three step-grandsons, Daniel Wagner and his fiancAC.e, Kimberly Kremer of Lewisburg, Nicholas Wagner and his wife, Kim of Portland, Or., Matthew Wagner and wife, Caitlin of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Arlene Bailey of Mifflinburg; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a son, Scott S. Sholley on October 23, 2001; a grandson, Zachariah R. Sholley on October 24, 2002; five brothers, Norman Sholley, Raymond Sholley, Stanford Sholley, Sr., Carl Sholley, Paul Sholley; three sisters, Helen Gemberling, Miriam Gill and Pauline Dressler.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Mifflinburg First Church of the Nazarene, 12 E. Market Street, Mifflinburg; where a celebration of Robert's life will begin at 4:00 with The Rev. Wayne S. Krell, officiating.
Interment with military honors accorded by veterans of the Mifflinburg American Legion will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery, Mifflinburg.
