Nevin Eugene Spangler, 78, of 337 Violet Road, Mifflinburg passed away at 9:16 pm on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Geisinger Medical Center.
He was born on October 03, 1935 in Buffalo Township, Union County, the son of the late Dale W. and Pauline (Brown) Spangler. On October 03, 1997, in Virginia he married the former Margretta “Greta” Richard, who survives.
Nevin graduated from Mifflinburg High School Class of 1952.
Nevin worked as an equipment operator for PennDOT for 25 years retiring in 2000. During the same time he also operated his families dairy and pig farm in Buffalo Twp., Union County. After the sale of the farm he still enjoyed visiting the farm he grew up on.
He attended Buffalo Valley United Methodist Church.
Nevin enjoyed yard work and was very proud of the appearance of his yard. He also enjoyed bowling, watching baseball, square dancing, country western music, and polka.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five children; Mark Spangler and companion Donna Keagle of Mifflinburg, Donna Spangler of Waverly, NY, Carol and husband Kim Yarger of Spring City, TN, Daniel and Marcelle Spickler of Paxtonville, Keith Spickler and Mary Koch of Montandon,Penny L. Snyder, Mifflinburg, 10 grandchildren, Chris Spickler, Corey Yarger, Colby Yarger, Keri Yarger, Michael Spickler, MandyJo Mahaffey, William Spickler, Ashley Fetterman, Shawn Snyder, Tabitha Spangler, 16 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Keister of Freeburg, Nellie Kuhn of Shamokin Dam, and one brother-in-law, George Richard and wife Dorothy of Penns Creek. Also, surviving is a special niece Annette Erdley and husband Timothy of West Milton.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Steven E. Snyder; two daughters-in-law, Linda Spickler and Jane Spickler.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Tuesday at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 2, with The Rev. Daniel H. Hicks, officiating.
Interment will be in the Dreisbach Church Cemetery.
