Mary Etta (Swartz) Wise, 67, of Mifflinburg entered into earthly rest and new life at 1:20 pm on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at ManorCare Health Services in Sunbury.
Mary was the fourth child, but first daughter, born to the late Weldon E. and Betty (Moore) Swartz, coming into the world on July 24, 1955 in Lewisburg. She attended Buffalo Crossroads elementary School and was a 1974 graduate of Lewisburg High School.
She worked on the family farm during her childhood and was employed as a factory worker at Milton Shoe Manufacturing. She later worked in the bakery operations at Perkins and Country Cupboard in Lewisburg, Mary loved it in the kitchen, where she crafted her own recipes and tested those in the many cookbooks which she collected. She was an avid reader, often seen with a book in her hand, preferring that to the broadcast media.
Mary attended the Black Run Chapel and later was a member of the Lewisburg Foursquare Church, participating in the church choir. She also served as the Sunday school teacher for the toddler age group. Most recently she attended the New Hope Bible Church in Mifflinburg, but was constrained by her declining health. Mary courageously dealt with the lasting effects of severe back and spinal injuries suffered in a car crash early in her life.
Mary had three sons, Thomas IV, Jeffrey (Elisha), and Terry. She was proud of four grandchildren, Raelyn and Dakota Clemens and Kaden and Kamden Wise. She is also survived by six brothers and three sisters: James Swartz and Cheryl, Wayne Swartz and Wife Patsy of Lewisburg, Dennis Swartz of West Milton, Brenda Swartz of Winfield, Kaye Harrison of Westminster, CO, Barry Swartz and wife Linda, Scott and wife Michele of Enola, Earl Swartz and Belinda, and Dixie and John Paladino all of Lewisburg, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an older brother, Hugh Swartz in 2015.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 6:30 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, June 15, 2023 at Adamo Funeral Home, 16 Walnut Street, Mifflinburg, where the memorial service will be conducted at 7.
