Mary Viola Shively, 98, formerly of 218 Maple Street, Mifflinburg entered into rest at 3:45 AM on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, where she had resided since July 2000.
She was born on December 26, 1913 in Lewisburg, the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Mary Elizabeth (Noll) Hackenberg. On April 10, 1938, in New Berlin by Rev. Clarence Whetstone she was united in marriage to Lynn Raymond Shively, who passed away on April 12, 2006. Together, they shared 68 years of memories.
Mary attended Lewisburg Area Schools.
She was a member of Driesbach United Church of Christ, Lewisburg, where she attended Mae and Martha Sunday School Class.
Mary was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her life was her family and her home. She had a green thumb for growing flowers and vegetables. For many years she preserved much of the family's fruits and vegetables.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary A. (Shively) Lytle and husband Richard D. of Harrisburg, a son, David L. Shively and wife Sandra Mae (Stranahan) of Mifflinburg, 5 grandchildren, Scott Lytle of Blairstown, NJ, Barbara and James Davis of Cleveland, OH, Sheri and Michael Prescott of Dublin, OH, Duane Shively of Mifflinburg and Craig Shively of Mifflinburg, 6 great-grandchildren. Also, survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, Viola Shively, two sisters, S. Mae Renn, Thelma E. Royer, four brothers, Harold M. Hackenberg, Wilbur W. Hackenberg, Joseph N. Hackenberg, and J. Nelson Hackenberg.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday at the Dreisbach United Church of Christ, 875 Dreisbach Church Road, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 with her pastor the Rev. Michael C. Romig, officiating.
Interment will be in the Dreisbach Church Cemetery.
