Mary Wiser Erdley, 94, of Lewisburg formerly of Kaiser Run Road, Millmont entered into rest at 8:10 AM on Wednesday, October 24, 2012 in Rhodesmere at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.
She was born on January 28, 1918 in West Buffalo Township, Union County, the daughter of the late Claude Henry and Mary Jane (Iddings) Wiser. On April 2, 1949 in Valley Forge she married Henry Melvin Erdley Jr, who passed away on June 14, 2001.
Mary was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School class of 1935 and a graduate of Lewistown Hospital School of Nursing Class 1943. Following nursing school she enlisted in the US Army Nurse Corp, earning the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and serving until her honorable discharge in 1945.
Mary was a member of Christ United Lutheran Church, Millmont.
Mrs. Erdley started her nursing career at the original Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg, as well as the current location. She than began working at the former Laurelton Center and remain there until her retirement in 1976. She also worked private duty nursing and in several area nursing homes.
She was a member of the Union County Homemaker group, and a volunteer nurse with the American Red Cross.
Mary enjoyed crocheting, flowers, and playing cards with family and friends.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law; Gail E. and Charles E. Allison of Orefield, PA, two sons and daughters-in-law; Stephen H. and Scarlett R. Erdley of Pennellville, NY, and Michael A. and Nancy L. Erdley of Northumberland, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Wiser of Sunbury.
She was preceded in death by a son Ronald E. Wiser, two brothers; Winston D. Wiser, Malvern R. Wiser, one sister; Florence I. Irwin.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 2 to 3 PM on Friday at the Christ's United Lutheran Church (Four Bells), 13765 Old Turnpike Road, Millmont, where the memorial service will be held at 3, with Rev. John D. Yost, officiating. Following the service, guests are invited to join the family in fellowship and light refreshments.
Interment will be conducted privately in the Hartleton Cemetery.
