Kenneth Franklin Erdley Jr., 87 of Lancaster, Pa. peacefully departed this world on Sunday, July 19, 2020. Born on April 10, 1933 at the Slifer house in Lewisburg, PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth Erdley Sr. and Josephine (Nerhood) Erdley. Ken was married to his college sweetheart Charlotte (Sandt) Erdley and recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.
Ken was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School class of 1951. He earned a Bachelors of Science from Susquehanna University where he played football for Coaches Amos Alonso Stagg Sr. and Jr. He was a member of Phi Mu Delta. Upon graduation he served in the US Navy. Ken also obtained a Masters Degree from Temple University.
Ken began his working years as a high school science teacher and football coach at Woodbury High School in NJ. He worked as Head Master of Mullica Hill Friends School and for the NJ State Department of Education. The majority of his career was as Director of Special Student Services for schools in Woodbury and Deptford NJ. Among his leadership in community services he served as Director of the United Cereal Palsy Center and past President of The United Way, both in southern NJ.
As an avid reader and history buff, Ken shared his knowledge of English history and Gothic cathedrals. Ken's interests included writing poetry, carpentry, painting and playing tennis. In addition, Ken and his wife Charlotte enjoyed living in Wenonah NJ, traveling to Europe and spending many winters in Naples, Florida. Ken was a gentleman who treated everyone with kindness. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife Charlotte, a son Derek ( Jeanne ), a daughter Megan (Peter) Jansson and two grandchildren Konnor and Mariah. He was preceded in death by an infant brother John A. Erdley.
A memorial gathering will take place at a later date.
