She was born on August 9, 1915 in Dice, PA, a daughter of the late Alfred and Lizzie (Rinkard) Nerhood. On October 13, 1932, she married Kenneth F. Erdley Sr., who preceded her in death on September 5, 2012. They were married nearly eighty years. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, John Alfred Erdley.
Jo was a 1932 graduate of Mifflinburg High School and enjoyed learning music all her life.
Josephine was known as an accomplished coloratura soprano singer noted for her perfect pitch. A member of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale she sang as a soloist for numerous church services and weddings throughout central Pennsylvania. In later years she studied piano.
Jo will be remembered fondly by her son, daughter-in-law, grandson, granddaughter, great grandson and family. She will also be remembered as a devoted wife and as a long time friend to her beloved mentor Annie Knauf (Klose).
She is survived by her son Kenneth F. Erdley, Jr. and his wife Charlotte of Lancaster; one grandson, Derek and his wife Jeanne; one granddaughter, Megan E. Jansson and her husband Peter; one great-grandson, Konnor; one step-great-grandson, Sven. Also, by her faithful friends, Bob and LaRue, and her care-givers; Julie, Cindy, Twila, Annette, Robin, Karen, Kristen, Krista, Katherine, and her devoted granddaughter, Megan.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, , with lay pastor John Rakow, officiating.
