Joseph Forrester Geiser

June 27, 1926 — August 22, 2017

Joseph Forrester Geiser, 91, of 5478 Old Turnpike Road, Lewisburg, entered eternal rest at 8:18 PM on Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 27, 1926 in Sunbury, a son of the late Chester and Margaret (Forrester) Geiser. He was married on October 19, 1946 to the former Mary Jane Sheesley in Winchester, Virginia after they decided to elope.  This October would have been their 71st wedding anniversary.

Joseph was a graduate of Sunbury High School, class of 1944.

On August 17, 1944, Joseph was inducted in the United States Army in Harrisburg.  He was proud to serve the United States in the 89th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, Troop E during the Second World War.  He was one of many men that fought at The Battle of Remagen during the Allied invasion of Germany resulting in the unexpected capture of the Ludendorff Bridge over the Rhine and possibly shortened World War II in Europe. During his years of service, he was awarded: European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army Occupation Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.  Joseph was honorably discharged on July 8, 1946 in Fort Dixon, New Jersey.

He worked for TRW Inc. Valve in Danville as a maintenance technician.

Joseph enjoyed woodworking; having made many gifts for his grandchildren including grandfather clocks and porch swings.  He also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and hunting.  He was a member of the Camp Keeawae Hunting Camp, and a fifty-year member of the New Berlin American Legion Post 957.

Surviving in addition to his wife, Mary Jane, is one daughter and son-in-law; Shirley and Fred Wenrich of Lewisburg, four grandchildren, Tracy and Jamie Sauers of Mifflinburg, Dean and Amy Wenrich of New Columbia, Gene and Lori Wenrich of Enola, Michele and Scott Swartz of Enola; three great-grandchildren, Zachary Sauers of Mifflinburg, Erica and Leah Wenrich of Enola; a sister, Mary Rogers of Northumberland; a brother, David Geiser of Montandon; as well as many special nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Mertz and two brothers, Chester and Robert Geiser.

Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10 to 11 AM on Saturday at Adamo’s, 16 Walnut Street, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Pastor Gary L. Owens, officiating.

Interment with full military honors will be accorded by local area veterans will be in Hartleton Cemetery.
