Helen Jean Snook (nee Sterling), 99, of Mifflinburg entered into rest at 10:04 am on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.
Helen was born on July 18, 1921 in Mifflinburg, a daughter of the late Myron C. and Helen E. Sterling (nee Sowers). On November 13, 1943 she married Quentin S. Snook, who passed away on April 29, 2000.
She was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School class of 1939. She was a graduate of the Pennsylvania State University class of 1943, majoring in Home Economics and English.
Following college, Helen worked as a food inspector in Philadelphia while Quentin was stationed at the naval yard there during World War II. After the war, Helen and Quentin returned to Mifflinburg where they purchased Snook's Mill from James Snook, Quentin's father. Helen worked with Quentin managing the mill until they both retired in 1972.
After retirement, Helen worked at the Herr Memorial Library, where, as an avid reader, she was happy to help both children and adults find interesting books to read. Helen also regularly volunteered at the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum, local Athenaeum club and at the Mifflinburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, where Helen was a member.
In addition to literature, Helen enjoyed gardening and working in her yard. She also enjoyed bridge, knitting, flower arranging and entertaining. She especially enjoyed visits by her children and grandchildren through the years.
Surviving are her son Steven Snook (Cheryl) of Auburn, Pa., her daughter Megan Susko (John) of Brookfield Wis., grandson Alexander Susko (Anne) of Milford, Iowa, granddaughter Abigail Susko of Chicago, Ill., sister-in-law Nancy Snook of Mifflinburg and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother George, numerous sisters and brothers-in-laws, and numerous cousins.
Family and friends are invited to the graveside service at 1pm on Friday, September 4, 2020 at Mifflinburg Cemetery, with Pastor John Yost, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helen's memory may be sent to the Herr Memorial Library, or the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum.
