Harold Eugene Erb Sr., 77, of 446 Jordan Avenue, Montoursville, entered eternal rest at 6:53 PM on Friday, August 25, 2017 in at The Gatehouse at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport with his loving family by his side.
He was born on March 19, 1940 in Buffalo Crossroads, a son of the late Clark and Martha Olive (Walter) Erb. Mr. Erb was married two times. His first wife, the former Barbara Ann Miller preceded him in death in 1979; and on July 11, 1994, he married the former Lucy Moon of Williamsport. Together, Lucy and Harold have shared 34 years of memories.
Harold was a graduate of Lewisburg High School, class of 1958; and earlier in life attended Buffalo Crossroads.
On June 10, 1958, Harold joined the United Sates Navy in Baltimore Maryland. In 1963, 1965, 1968 Harold received a certificate for IC Electrician Class “C”, Class “A” IC School, and the Electrical Instrument Repair; in 1970, he graduated second in class with honors as an Interior Communications Electrician First Class; in 1971 Harold completed the course of Training in Maintenance and Operations of Intrusion Alarm Systems; in 1972 he completed the Naval Aviation Maintenance Documentation; and in 1975, Harold received his Home Entertainment Electronics Systems Diploma. Chief Petty Officer Harold was released from active duty on Jun 20, 1978. During his 20 years of service, Harold received the following decorations; National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Second Good Conduct Award, Third Conduct Award. While in service, Harold was on many ships, having been to the Mediterranean Sea on the Enterprise; to Russia during the Arab-Israeli War; and passed through the Panama Canal. On December 1, 1987 Harold retired from the United Sates Navy as a Chief Interior Communications Electrician.
After retiring from the U.S. Navy, Harold worked at ACF Industries in Milton for 25 years as an Electrician, until his retirement on October 1, 2002.
Harold enjoyed drawing, puzzles, painting, sketching, woodworking and tinkering. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association, The U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation, US Fleet Reserve Association, and of the American Legion Post #104, Montoursville.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Lucy, are their children; a daughter, Linda Simcox and her husband Randy of Williamsport; a son, Harold E. “Butch” Erb Jr., and his wife Holly of Montoursville; a daughter, Tracy Erb of Williamsport; a son, Joseph Hartsock and his wife Tracy of Marysville; a son, Jay Hartsock of Williamsport; a daughter, Robin Levoll and her husband Mat of Williamsport; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Janet Fegley and her husband Adam of Mifflinburg; a sister-in-law, Nancy Crossgrove of Mifflinburg; a sister-in-law, Billie McGrillis and her husband Russell of Baltimore, Md; as well as several nieces, great-nieces and nephews, his dog Pippin and his grand-dog, Diablo.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine L. Burson a son, Blaine R. Erb, and a brother, John L. Erb; and his dog, Bailey.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 11 am to 12 pm on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Adamo’s, 16 Walnut Street, Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 12, with the Pastor Butch Woolsey, officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be accorded by local area veterans will be in Mazeppa Union Cemetery, Buffalo Township
