Glen E. Houpt entered into rest at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital on August 31, 2024 at 8:35pm, at the age of 94.
He was born December 11, 1929 in Somerset, PA, son of the late Ward Houpt and Margaret (Houpt) Crist. On November 26, 1949, he married the love of his life, Kathryn L. (Hannah) Houpt, who preceded him in death on October 10, 2017, after 68 years of marriage.
Papa was smart, witty, and always a jokester. He loved spending time with his beloved cats and family where he would tell us stories, share his wealth of knowledge, and as always, his opinion.
He was a 1948 graduate of Mifflinburg Area High School. Later, he was employed at Pennsylvania House Furniture until his retirement. He spent his retirement years at Mifflinburg sporting events cheering on his alma mater while working as a security guard.
He attended Christ Wesleyan Church in Milton, PA, where he met his dear friend, Sam Wise, whom he always talked very highly of. He was also a member of the local Lions Club and Mifflinburg Moose.
Papa’s favorite hobbies included hunting, as well as collecting coins, and baseball cards. He was an avid baseball fan, as he enjoyed attending games in both Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.
Papa was a lifelong member of the Mifflinburg Hose Company, serving his community for a total of 76 years. Over his years in the fire company, he served in several roles, including assistant fire chief. He was also an Honorary President of the Pennsylvania Central District Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
He is survived by four sons, one daughter, and their spouses. Donald Houpt and his companion Sandy Arnold, of Millmont, PA, Douglas and Deliah Houpt of Washington State, Kerry Houpt of Oklahoma City, OK, Jill and Ronald (Butch) Adams of Mifflinburg, PA, and Kim Houpt of Mifflinburg, PA. Alongside his children are eight grandchildren and their spouses, Matt Houpt and wife Amanda, Pam Straub and husband Todd, Dustin Houpt and girlfriend Amanda, Blair Houpt, Kira Martin and husband Jason, Kyle Adams and wife Courtney, Zackery Houpt, Joshua Houpt and girlfriend Taylor, and seven great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Ward Houpt Jr. and Harold Houpt.
Services will be conducted privately for the family.
Burial will be in the Mifflinburg Cemetery.
