George Richard "Dick" Wynn

January 19, 1931 — December 4, 2014

George Richard “Dick” Wynn, 83, of Mifflinburg passed away at 3:14 PM on Thursday, December 04, 2014 at Geisinger Medical Center.

He was born on January 19, 1931 in Shamokin, a son of the late George and Elva (Cook) Wynn.  On July 04, 1953, he married the former Ruth A. Maurer, who survives. Together, they shared 61 years of memories.

Dick graduated from Ralpho Township High School class of 1949.  Following high school he enlisted in the US Air Force serving until his honorable discharge in 1955.  He then enrolled and graduated from Bloomsburg University, and earned his master’s degree from Bucknell University.

Dick was a teacher of Pennsylvania history and served as a guidance counselor for the Mifflinburg Area School District for 31 years, retiring in 1991.

He was an active member of Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served on the administrative board, assisted with the Easter egg and Christkindl committees, and would offer his wood carving for sale, using the proceeds to support various church projects.   He also sang with the Buffalo Valley Singers for many years.

Dick enjoyed gardening and lawn maintenance and would often help his neighbors with raking leaves, mowing grass, and snow removal.

Dick loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, David and Pat Wynn of Arlington, TX, one daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Lee Bailey of Mifflinburg, three grandchildren and spouses, Alicia and Evan Llewellyn, Andrew and Haily Wynn, Tyler  Bailey, one great grandson, Charles Llewellyn, one sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Jim Maurer of Shamokin and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Wynn, and a sister, Jean Enterline.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 1 to 2 PM on Monday at the Mifflinburg United Methodist Church, 279 Market St., Mifflinburg, where the funeral will be held at 2, with the Rev. Elizabeth R. Taylor, officiating.

Interment will be in Mifflinburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dick’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
