Gary Wayne “Butch” Spangler, 73, a native of Union County, PA, entered into rest at 11:33 AM on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Hershey Medical Center. He resided at 80 Majestic View Lane, a home he and his brothers and brothers-in-law built in 1970.
He was born on February 22, 1944 in Lewisburg, the son of the late Paul Rudolph and Elma Marguerite (Wetzel) Spangler. He was married on October 14, 1967 to Ruth-Alice Mae Seebold, by his brother Rev. Kenneth E. Spangler in Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Berlin. Together, they shared 49 years of memories.
Butch was a graduate of Mifflinburg High School, class of 1962, where he played baseball for 3 years.
Butch was a life member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, New Berlin.
In 1964, he went into business as Spangler Bros. Inc, home builder and developer with his two brothers Clair and Orville, which lasted 40 years. Earlier in life for three summers and 2 years he worked for builder, Eugene Keister.
Butch helped at carnivals and in the kitchen at the New Berlin Social Hall. He became a life member of the New Berlin Fire Co. He served on the archives and Museum committee and was a member of the board of directors of the Union County Historical Society. He was also President of the New Berlin Cemetery Association. He was a member of the Union County Sportsman Club, the New Berlin Heritage Association, and of Camp Keeawae Hunting Camp.
Butch enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and would love to hunt and fish with them.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Ruthie, is one daughter, Karen Mae Spangler-Pereira, wife of Jimmy of Holly Springs, NC, two grandsons, Nevin Lino and Masin Wyatt Spangler-Pereira, three brothers, Clair D. Spangler, Harold M. Spangler, and Orville L. Spangler, and one sister, Julia Spangler Fetter.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rev. Kenneth E. Spangler, Alvin E. Spangler, and one sister, Marian Spangler Reich.
Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday at the Dominick T. Adamo Funeral Home, 247 Chestnut Street, Mifflinburg, and from 10 to 11 AM on Monday at the Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Market Street, New Berlin, where the funeral will be held at 11, with the Rev. Andrew S. Fitch, officiating.
Interment will be in the New Berlin Cemetery.
