Evelyn Irene Swede, 84, of the Devitt House, Lewisburg passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at RiverWoods.
She was born on November 23, 1930 in Patterson, NJ, the daughter of the late Herbert Vincent Paxton and Myrtle (Hanna) Paxton. When Evelyn was a young child, she lost her mother to sickness and gained another very special mother, Edith (Bailey) Paxton
Evelyn was a 1949 graduate of Clifton Senior High School, Clifton New Jersey
Evelyn, better known as Nana to her family and Grandma to others, had many passions in her life. She spent many years with her husband, Ted, managing a family greenhouse nursery business in Clifton, NJ. Upon moving to Pennsylvania, she worked at Susquehanna University in the Janitorial Department. Following her retirement, she found her greatest passion, serving as a Foster Grandmother at Kelly Elementary, Lewisburg. She built many special bonds with children, families, and staff while serving as a Foster Grandmother. She supported children’s learning in the classroom throughout the school year and in the Summer Camp programs. Outside of school, she had a beautiful singing voice and loved to play piano and sing at family and friend get-togethers. She also enjoyed playing board games and card games with her grandchildren and friends Pollyanna being a favorite. She loved to read and share her many books with her friends. Nana-Grandma-Evelyn will be deeply missed by everyone whose life she has touched.
Surviving is one son William R. and Holly A. Swede of New Berlin, five grandchildren, Anthony W. Swede, Brittany A. Swede, Alisha E. Thompson, Amanda L. Swede, Kristi M. Reber, five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a step grandson, Justin Dehart.
A graveside service at Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments at the Devitt House, Lewisburg is being planned for this spring.
