Donald Lee Wetzel

Donald Lee Wetzel, 92, of New Berlin entered into rest at 6:13 am on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village.

He was born on May 19, 1927 in Sunbury, a son of the late George Edgar and Myrtle Mae (Geise) Wetzel. On June 14,1948, in Lewisburg he married the former Martha Louise Swanger, who survives.

Donald was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII until his honorable discharge.

He was a lifelong member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church where he held various positions over the years.

Donald retired from Sun Vo-Tech as a maintenance supervisor. He also owned the D.L. Wetzel Restaurant and Hardware Store, New Berlin.

He was a charter member of New Berlin Lions Club, charter member of New Berlin American Legion, former Scoutmaster of the New Berlin Boy Scout Troop. He was also active in the New Berlin community with various other organizations

He enjoyed carpentry, fishing, hunting, and camping.

Donald was a kind man, and a wonderful husband and father.

Surviving are five sons, Linn and wife Gaye Wetzel of New Berlin, Scott Wetzel and companion Julie Wakamook of New Berlin, Joseph and companion Diane Rhodes of New Berlin, Curtis Wetzel of New Berlin, Patrick Wetzel of New Berlin, daughter-in-law, Debra Wetzel of New Berlin, 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one sister, Carol Jacka of Mifflinburg.

He was preceded in death by son, Calvin D. Wetzel, a daughter-in-law, Denise Wetzel, and six siblings, Mary Ann Wetzel, Catherine Attinger, George E. Wetzel Jr, Jack Wetzel, Jane Solomon, Bonita Oberdorf.

Family and friends are invited to the visitation from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Adamo's, 16 Walnut Street, Mifflinburg, and from 10 to 11 am on Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, 308 Market St, New Berlin, where the funeral will be held at 11, with Pastor Chilton, officiating.

Interment will be in the New Berlin Cemetery.
